Great project! Thanks for posting it.

Amazing how the motormounts and body happened to fall right into place... someone did their homework here!

that looks like a good project. and Im with you on wondering why the d. side frame rail is larger that the pass side.

The only thing I can figure is with the steering box way up front they had to make it larger on that side to accommodate for the extra stress that the steering puts on it. Because that’s where the biggest difference in each side of the frame is right at the steering box.

Looks like a California plate on the 72. Will you be able to register this as a 72?

no, it's a Washington plate and from everything I can find all that matters here is the vin# so it will still be registered as a 72

you may or may not believe me but I really didn't do that much research into this frame. The truck kinda fell into my lap at the right time and so I put some work into looking at how some things would line up but nothing was for sure. I fully expected to have to move the body mounts at least a little and fab up solutions as I ran into problems. The research I put in online turned up very little as for any others trying the same swap. In fact I can't find anyone who has done this yet. Not to say I'm the first, but I just can't find anyone who has. Most of my research was spent on the 72 frame because I planed on chopping it down and seeing what upgrades were out there for suspension and such. So far I really have been surprised by how easy in some ways this has come together. As for the engine mounts I welded in the cross member from the Lincoln so it made the engine install a breeze, but I did find a mistake that I made and those will have to come out and different engine mounts will have to be used.

I really appreciate all of the responses, I've never attempted a build like this and to see all the positive things you all have said is really great. Thanks and I will try to keep you all up to date as things move along.

That's great! I was hoping you could register it as a 72. Might not be a biggie now but down the road as emissions get tougher it should be grandfathered in most places.

I've been thinking about custom grill inserts but not sure what I want to do yet. I picked up some metal mesh samples to see what might look good. I really like some of them and think I have it narrowed down to one.........maybe.....oh dang I don't know... lol
