It doesn't really smooth shifting, it just does it quicker. Rather than having a drawn out shift, it shifts quicker. I guess that is the best I can describe it.
Now to the original question. If your 5.3 is getting up there, you can get complete junk yard 5.3's under 500 bucks and start building that up with a cam, headers, throw some 243/799 heads on it and get a stall for your trans and that should be one quick 5.3.

not some bad prices i see an close too prob for right around what i could get. my ol skool 400 sb going so its a thought the 6.0 is anyway

i seen some article where they bought a scrapayrd 5.3

added some heads and a ls6 cam and a tune an some headers

it was in the 420hp range i think to rear wheels but seemd like a good place

ive seen the scarpayrd 5.3s from that site localy around 300 but had some high miles

Where are you located? Dan (DV200NJ) is in the process of a swap, he may sell you his. Its a 4.8, but you could make that motor scream too.
