Im familiar wit hthe LS6 cam swaps. Your gonna loose some low end grunt with it and only gain 20-30 hp on the top end. (thats the cam alone)

Heads and the tune, will probably free up another 30 or so.....

Just remember where you want your power band to be. Unless you are in a RC/SWB those Mustangs will out weigh you by 1500lbs easy.

A budget 5.3 like I said would be to grab some 243/799 heads, maybe mill them to up the compression, throw in some new springs, hardened pushrods and an aftermarket cam. An LS6 cam would be a very budget minded swap as it will give you some power but a cam spec'd out just for your build would be ideal. You do want to keep the powerband where you are going to use it but if you lose a little lowend, nothing that a 2800-3200 stall can't fix.

what type of stroker kits are around for the 5.3s i know for sure you can bore um out to 5.7. an possibly do a 383

but as one sits standard what type of stroker kits are there

ive always been a fan of stroker engines since i rode in an 87 s10 with a 383.
and seen what it whould do on the street and strip a buddy. also had one in an 81 camaro and thta thing was mean.

then i seen the post about the lil bros truck with the 408 stroker which is a stroked 6.0. that thing looked terribly mean.

so heres what ive decided keep my 01 as is maybe somethign here or there

ive got an 82 chevy short wide that needs attention badly so a 5.3 or 6.0.
is very possible and still beeing fuel injected whould be even better.

ive got a 400 sb ol skool block its short blocked. but i need to spend money on heads and this an that and the other. i think it might be my best route to go this way

anyway 5.3 stoker kits ?

Now were getting into alot of money. This is starting to move to Dan situation. A possible 6.0 swap. Its not really needed, but the no replacement for displacement still reigns true.

Its all about how much you really want to spend and how much power you want. In order to get to a 383 like you said, you have to bore it to LS1 specs then get a 4" crank. The thing with the 5.3's is that some people have had issues with boring out the 5.3. Sometimes the cylinder walls won't be thick enough so if you decide to go that route, then you will need to have the block sonic checked first to see if it will hold up. There are soooo many options but if I were you I would just go with a 6.0 to start off. Since it comes with a 4" bore the heads that you can put on it are better. You can pick up a set of L92 heads that come on the 6.2 liter L92 engine and have a sick 6.0. I could go on and on about the benefits of getting the 6.0 over boring and stroking a 5.3. Let me know if you have any questions.
