Yeah, there are some good torque cams out there for that engine.

Found a variety of popular 460 cams. If you keep a lower LSA and run a higher lift you can make stump pulling torque yet rev out to a higher RPM as well for more HP.
218/[email protected], .513/.520, 110 LSA you would need to run 91 octane with a cam like that.

One thing you might consider if you havent is the weight of the vehicle you took the engine out of and putting in---my 454 had about same hp rating in a 3/4 ton truck heavy duty camper special fully loader-ac-power sterring...at least 5000lbs and if i did put it in my nove that weighs 3500 with me in it fully loaded it bumps that hp up to around 400 hp. So you might not have to do as much as you thoughtto get it where you want-this is 63chevystepside and thats my 2 cents. Good luck have fun in the rebuild

I would leave the 350 in. The things you can do to a 350 and the parts avaliable will put that 460 to shame every time

No problem...Just thought maybe a weight thing might be something he would want to consider? Just throwing in-hay, I thought he was wanting to build up some hp... and thought maybe what he pulled the engine out of might of been heavier than whats he putting it in to-therefore encourageing him to rock on- Did i fail? Sorry...I understand he might not be building a hot rod but a mud trk-torque is what he wants right?---guess im stupid sorry...If the 460 is early 70s vs late 70s the hp rating would be diffrent to would'nt since they use to rate it at the back wheel vs at the fly wheel right?---Sorry again i don't have all the details to make a good call-cam or anything-i just go back to the corner

And in the alternate scenario a bigger engine on a heavy vehicle does not necessarily make it faster

So you guys are saying if you put a engine that was rated at 240hp when they rated it at the back wheel vs same exact set up diffrent year shows it at 360hp makes no diffrence? Isnt what he quating it as a 240hp a qouate from the back wheel not flywheel-but yea they the same-but considering the boundries in which he wants to be it be good to know would'nt it?- Then taking said engine and dropping even just 500lbs-sure on a dyno might be the same but would'nt that 500lb drop of weight equal about 50hp? So said engine would produce said hp at a faster rate and not so much the engine increased the hp but the overall product? Am i missing something?---I go back to my corner But id bet a steak dinner if you take two exact cars through and through an all and all and drop 500lbs of on it be about a 1/2second faster which means it has more torque/hp avaiable.---sorry can't spell.***not really getting your logic-sure your not getting mine either...

I was speaking engine. Just engine. The 240hp is the engine rating, at the flywheel.

If you take said engine from a Continental, then put it in a Silverado, and then turn around and shove in a boat...it still has the same HP at the flywheel.

Sure, a lighter vehicle would yield a faster 1/4 time (gear ratio, etc permitting) but that is just power to weight ratio.

If the engine is untouched, nothing has been done to change the power at the flywheel.

I may have misunderstood your post about that, but that is how I took it.
