Maybe have the nexus system on the mini type pad or something and have it molded into the dash and have a cover that just fits over the place where it's at with a knob that pulls it off or maybe it folds down or maybe one that rolls down with a little motor kinda like a sectioned garage door. Think roll top desk type look.

I would also take a look at some old rodder magazines to see what being used back in the old days of rodder build ups. If you find a style you like Autometer has a custom gauge shop and they can make you most anything for a reasonable cost. I think this would be a very cool way to go and get modern tech and what need for boost, pressure etc in an older style/look. They can also make combo gauges that include Speedo/Tach/Temp/Fuel gauge or different combinations all in one. The cost considering what they provide and you get something you want is really not that bad.

I am thinking something like this for a face/number font that looks period to your ride. Does not have to be yellow of course....but I think you might get the idea.

The first pic shows the older style pointer.

You can also buy for the electronic speedo a GPS device that plugs in the gauge and you get your speed from that. No worries about tire diameter etc and gear change out for a speedo drive in the trans. Check online prices, it can be had from about $80.00 to $125.00

Don't get me wrong dial gauges are great, but for this I just want something unique and not just a different design on the dial. That is why I was originally going to use the stock gauges from the engine
