2nd Opinion:Antifreeze/Water Usage

You can purchase test strips that you dip into the coolant that detects the presence of exhaust gases. But as has been mentioned several times, pull the intake

Losing water is an obvious sign of a failed head gasket or cracked head. Don't listen to idiotic advice saying "keep driving it until it starts getting hot". That's about the worst advice I have ever heard.

I used the coolant test stripes back in auto tech school. Coolant tested good. It starting using water back in auto school. Teacher said its normal to use little water. Now it got worse. Teacher brushed it off IMO. He didnt take in any head gasket work for us cause of sending heads to have them checked.

Obviously the teacher didn't know what he was talking about, the coolant circuit is a sealed, closed loop, if it's ever low there's a leak somewhere. 1.5 quarts every time you drive it, is not a little amount. There's a leak and if it isn't visible underneath or at the heater core it it's going into the engine, either through into the combustion chamber at the head through a busted head or head gasket or it's getting into the oil through the intake manifold. Either way engines don't do well long term when coolant is getting in places inside the engine it's not supposed to. Fix it or don't expect us to feel bad when it seizes or burns up.

Your teacher needs to find an area he is more skilled in. Perhaps the food industry.

Sounds like you need to put one and a half quarts of Stop Leak in there. That should seal it up.

My teacher didnt recommend using stops leaks cause they can do more harm than good.
