It's a '62 Buick Skylark.

Cool! Not a lot of those on the roads anymore. It'a kind of amazing how people focus in on certain models to restore, etc. So, you "mostly" see those certain models.

Lets try it again...

Nice looking car. What was it? For some reason, it's not ringing any bells with me.

I started to yank your chain and ask if it was a Toyota, but I decided to not do that.
It's a '62 Buick Skylark.
Cars of that era and the 70's had their own personalities.
And the sheet metal wasn't cheap Chinese crap.

Maybe I've gotten used to it maybe it has gotten more used to me. But, the odd shifting and torque management doesn't seem to be as invasive now as it was when I first picked up the truck.

On Saturday, I picked my dad up when we went to lunch. After 30 miles or so, with him suggesting things to do and us seeing how the truck reacted, we're pretty sure it's the lousy "get more mpg's" tires that are the cause of the truck feeling so unsettled.

If you're in a curve and hit a bump or a slight dip, the sidewalls feel like they're trying to roll under or something, making the whole damn truck get unsettled. You get a similar reaction if you steer in one direction, then back, and then back to the original direction. That third movement causes the rear tires in particular (they're at 40 lbs, btw, so not under-inflated or 'soft') to give and the back-end to feel like it's not tracking well with the front.

If i was setup for it, I'd be tempted to temporarily swap my tires to the loaner and the loaner's tires to my truck to verify our thinking. But, trying to swap tires around with one friggin' floor jack and a 4-way... :nono:

I had a set of Kelly tires on a truck that did exactly what you're describing. They were a 10ply tire and overall good looking tire, but I didn't keep them longer than a couple of months. I was scared to death to go around a curve or even make a turn with all my equipment on the truck.

Yeah... Prior to our revelations, if I had test driven a truck with these tires on it and noticed the sloppy handling, I probably would've written the truck off and kept looking for something else. :dunno:

I don't think I could ever see myself driving any "red" truck or auto. Blue on the other hand.. oh wait! I own a Blue truck. :D I could see myself driving a black truck too but definitely not red or yellow. Yuck!

I haven't used my Onstar Nav because before Michael mentioned the way it works. I knew there was no way I'd use it when I bought the truck.

What you described sounds like what my truck does every so often. Like the rear is pulling my front end backwards.
