Couple weekends ago we made a trip to San Diego for a Niece's wedding. It's about a 9 hour trip and our daughter with her two kids were coming with us. Pickup has room for 5 but not a comfortable ride for that long in the back seat. So we rented a Premium SUV.

I was expecting a Tahoe, but the daughter and I were really happy when they said it was a Suburban. (The wife packs a lot of crap :ohnoes:). Anyway the Suburban was really nice. Had a very comfortable and quiet ride. Had to get use to the extra length and weight. It's a big, big ride. The stereo had very good sound. The bose speakers are awesome.

Had a lot of fun figuring out all the different features on it while driving. The fuel usage made me laugh. We'd be getting 99 mpg doing 80 downhill, but anywhere from 6 to 9 going up hill. I think we averaged about 16 mpg and we didn't baby the thing. Our speed was anywhere from 75 to 85 with lots of WOT pulls.

Thing had good power and was easy to drive. The only thing I could criticize would be the gearing while going up hills. It would jump up and down a gear or 2 and sometimes 3. Could never find one it would stay in. I figured it must've had something to do with the feature that would cancel cylinders to boost gas mileage. I know if I owned one, someone would have to show me what I was doing wrong.

Overall I'd give it a high score and would definitely rent one again if the need ever arose again.

Oh yeah, it was black with black leather interior.

And ugly!!
They aren't even close to being as ugly as the competition. In fact I like the new Suburban... It looks like something the CIA would drive in black.

I really like the Suburban, but if I were going to buy a brand-new SUV (not a crossover) from GM, excepting the Blazer (currently still available in a no-frills 2WD version in my country), I would get a Tahoe. And would never get a black one, then I would avoid people asking me to use it to carry coffins...

I agree with you Culater, a very nice rig, mine is is older 2008 (December) but very pleasant to drive it, a good power with the 5.3, comfortable in LTZ trim, very quite to appreciate the music given by the Bose system which is great, and sorry Bigredstx the Sub (as we call it here) is a very beautiful SUV !! And not so big, an Audi Q7 has the same size or so.

Glad you liked it. They have to be one of my top favorite road trip vehicles.
