Helping my son find first car for 16 yr old grand-daughter. For the money he has to spend have found nothing but junk until this Saturn. Not a blemish on body and recent maintenance to include new battery, tires, oil and and all filter elements. Is a new car trade-in at local Hyundai Dealer. Car drives perfect and body is sporty looking enough for a 16 yr old girl. Has the 2.4L engine with 98,000 miles but drives and runs as good as our new 2012 GMC Terrain with same engine. We're about $500 off on the price but feel like we will work it out.

That's pretty high miles for a 2009...
I think the timing belt is due to be changed at 100,000 miles also.

Seems like a price around $7,000 to $7,500 would be pretty fair... :dunno:

REad owners manuel it might need the gears as well as belt and stat and all hoses and belt but there nice looking cars.

Tell them that your going to have to do all the repairs so she can be safe so they can come off a whole lot.

They are rebadged Opels. GM punted on building Saturns the last few years and started importing European models as Saturns.

When it comes to Saturn, this is a good thing considering how poor their earlier models held up.

One real issue might be obtaining replacement parts in the future for a car that isn't made anymore and the company is out of business.

Pretty decent cars. My mom had it's epsilon cousin the Malibu for 8 years and never had any major issues. Was a bitch on brakes though, needed the rotors turned or replaced about once a year. Spare parts shouldn't be too much of an issue, the G6, Aura, and 08-12 Malibu were all pretty closely related and the engine and tranny were used in pretty much everything made by GM that was FWD.

Damn! I forget about these new cars with timing belts instead of chains. Wants way more than $7500. Actually $9900. Thought I could get them down but haven't budged yet.

Also looking at an 2008 Pontiac G6 with the 3.5L V-6 and 88,000 miles. Does the V-6 require timing belt at 100K?

I'm pretty sure the 2.4 has a chain. The pushrod 3.5 definitely has a chain.
