Hello all,

My 2005 F150/5.4 Triton idles a bit low (in my opinion). It sits about 485/500 RPM. When shifting to Reverse/Drive and turning the wheel the other day it actually died. But normally will drop RPM dramatically.

Any thoughts? Or suggestions on what the idle should be?

Thanks!

500 - 600 RPM seems common on them. I don't know how to adjust that one. Somebody will chime in here.

I'm assuming it has ETC so the computer controls idle and the only way to adjust it would be a tune but 500 doesn't seem unusually low. Might just be running a little off. Have you tried cleaning the throttle body, MAF, or IAC? Is the CEL on?

thanks for all the comments folks. ran a can of sea foam the other day so i'm putting some miles on first to see if that clears the rough idle.

any recommendations on cleaning the throttle body?

thanks again. this forum is hitting the success cycle everytime so far.

LOL, after reading the Seafoam comments I thought that might raise a stir. Kidding, i'll pick up a can of CRC MAF cleaner on the way home today and hit the TB as well.

thanks as always all.

Everything I have read on these says that they are really sensitive to dirt and buildup. That sounds like a good plan.
