I remember the day when I used one of these to remove paint and rust on board a few ships.I wonder if it would work on your cab channels.I'm guessing you know what it is and how to use it... :D

 I have busted a bunch of rust with them. As a matter of fact I have my own personal needle gun.

But they are pretty destructive on thin metal. :(

This is a internet pic of the one I have.

Update time:

This past weekend was completely unproductive with the weather and then Mother's Day. But I needed some couch time.

Finally have both frame rails blasted and a coat of rattle can primer on them. What a royal PITA that whole ordeal became!

So I ran out of abrasive and picked up more at Tractor Supply during the week. I bought all the Fine grade they had, which was only 3 bags. The next grade was acceptable with my blaster so I grabbed 5 bags of the stuff.

I'm thinking I'm really gonna bust this projects ass! :D

WRONG!!!:fume:

The abrasive kept plugging up the blast nozzle. I would have to stop, relieve the pressure, clear the clog and then try again which usually only lasted 30 seconds. So I finally dumped 150 pounds of this shit out of the pot, screen every ounce of it back through a window screen. Then put it in the hopper.

I'm thinking I got this!! Same old crap but maybe just a little longer blasting and it plugs up. So I'm trying to pay really close attention to what's happening and I notice small pieces of wire in with the abrasive. Like 1/8" long pieces of wire brush type material.

The stuff gets to the nozzle and turns sideways blocking the abrasive. I am at wits end and call it a day.

The next morning I go to Lowe's and buy 4 bags of Contractor Grade Fine Sand. Poured one bag straight in the hopper and blasted until it ran out. No clogs, no screening, just unadulterated rust removal.

Now my frame awaits the custom suspension from Porterbuilt Street Rods. Which should be finished May 22. :)

I started working on some of the rust in the windshield channel seams. Digging and grinding and the seam looks like swiss cheese.

Lots of tacking, fitting small pieces and grinding and this is where I stopped week before last.

Hoping to hit it hard this coming weekend.

Update time:

I took this past week off because I thought my suspension would be coming in and I have a bunch of vacation time that I have to burn before the end of October. Suspension still hasn't arrived but I have plenty to keep me busy in the meantime.

Spread some body filler over the gas tank fill hole that I deleted.

I started working on the Left Cab Corner install. It was a PITA but got it done eventually. Rocker panel is just clamped up there so I could keep my body lines close.

It's been ground down now but you get the picture.

Stripped all the stuff out of both doors, I had forgotten how cool the old vinyl looked.

So then I flipped the cab on it's nose to start the replacement of the cab supports and clean off all the undercoating and gunk under there.

Started cutting out the left front support.

New one installed.

Began cutting out the left rear support.

Had to stop for a break.

Left rear installed, had to cut the brace out of the way and weld it back in after install.

Left side done.

On to the right side front.

You can see from this pic that the patch panels are far from drop in ready. They all require a ton of massaging and a little cussing.

Ready to receive new.

Installed

I will finish welding it after the floor patch panel goes in but I wanted to set it to keep my factory distances close.

Spent Sunday cleaning up the garage so the wife could have her spot back this week while I'm gone at work. Hoping to get the Right rear support cut out and replaced this coming weekend.

Moving along nicely. This is going to be one sweet ride when you are done. :)

I hope it turns out as nice as I envision it. But I still don't have a complete picture of what I'm going to do to it.

Boy, you're really half-assing this thing, aren't you? :jester:

Put me in the "excited to see it done" camp as well

Yeah I'm cutting as many corners as I can here!

Making progress

It's slow at times, I get frustrated and walk away from it. There's no hurry in getting it done but I want to at least remain somewhat steady. Which is hard with my work schedule.

I hate body work and patch panel work but I'll keep at it. I'll be happier when the suspension stuff starts coming in and I can work on that. The more mechanical things are what really makes me happy.
