Hello guys and gals!
Well i got started on my upgrade. Last weekend i got my gear box braket from perfomance online. So i went ahead and changed out the water pump to a short pump. And installed my 71 c10 power steering pump and pulleys. Only thing i had to do to the pump was change out the presure fitting from standard to the metric one out of my 85 pump. Just unscrews and screws back in. So now the ol girls got power steering and i asked my self why i didn't do that earlyer?

So today i started tearing down the the rest of the frame section from the 85 c10. My plan is to just remove A arms and spindles and rebuild them and bolt them in to my truck. Along with all the steering linkages and sway bar. Now my problemis ther is no wieght to the frame section so i can jack up the lower A arm so i can remove the the spindles. So does any one have any ideas on how to do this? Can i just unbolt the nower A arms at the crossmember? Or is ther way to much presure still on the springs? Its sitting on jack stands. And it just the front fram section. I tryed to post pics but I'm on my tablet and it wont let me. So ill post pics tomarrow.

I believe you can rent a tool from AutoZone to compress the spring so you can remove the A-arm. I could be wrong though.

Yes spring compressor is the way to go for the one with no engine. When you go to install the springs there is a hole in the upper part of the frame and the coil of the spring should align under this hole, look at the spring pocket fitment when you pull out the old spring form the old truck. Where the hole is at is just about at the end of the spring pocket, the hole allows you see if you have the spring rotated into the pocket.

Progress?

Why yes i do have progress. I was not able to use the spring compresser so i loosened the ball joint, smaked it with a BFH, and she poped loose. I ran a chain through the spring and A-arm. Then i unbolted the U bolts that hold the lower control arm on and pop she all came loose. First one scared me cause i didn't know what was going to happen.:dunno: But it wasn't bad so the second one was a lot easyer.

I had to get a differant booster for the brakes cause the 71 and 85 ones were shot. But for a little time and $20 bucks i got one out of a 2000 s10. Now i'm thinking of changing the rear end to match the 5 lug pattern as the disc brakes. I found one my buddy has out of a suburban he thinks it has 2:73s or 3:08s in it so that would help a lot with highway rpms and i hope mpgs.

Yesterday i bought all new bushings and ball joints for the 85 parts. Going to have a friend of mine at the local dealer put them in for me. Got to have a press and i no gotty. My plan is to buy every thing i need then tear the bed and front clip off the ol' girl and do everything at once.

I know how you guys love pics so here you go! I colored it all so i know how it all goes back together!:ohnoes:
