Alum blocks tend to have more valvetrain noise due to less mass/density.

I went and test drove a 06 silverado 1500 with 5.3 and it sounds different at idle versus my 2004 Silverado 1500 5.3. Did they change anything on newer motors?

The 04 was probably running AMSOIL, makes it run quieter.
