OK, and in the mean time, see if you can find or I will try to find a generic wiring diagram for GM external voltage regulator charging system.

OK, that is definatly part of the problem right there. That alternator is doing nothing. Its not charging the battery, its not providing power, you are running off the battery charge only, and yes, probably low voltage. That is not a single wire alternator at all. Those 2 prongs on the back need...

You're not being a pest. But I do feel confident wiring is done wrong somewhere, and the grinding is the rectifier brige in the alternator. One way to find that out, disconnect the wires from the back of the alternator and see if the noise goes away. And if the doesn't do it, then disconnect the...

Yes, you are good to go with factory wiring for 66. You are 12 Volt and alternator. I had a 62 that was 235 inline 6 with a generator. I converted it to V8 and a real alternator. It was 12 volt from facory in 62 but still using generator. Do you have the 2 wire plug coming out of a harness that...

No problem 66, that wasn't directed at you. I'm actually not here, but here to help buds and keep in touch. I have a feeling the problem is in the charging system, but it does sound like you are only 6 or low voltage. I have seen it happen before when a guy put a 80 Olds HEI engine in a 73 Olds...

OK, and to add, I did back up some and read somemore. Yes, 66 is already 12 volt factory, and is also already factory alterntator. I think 62 or 63 was last year for generator. Hell not even sure, but for sure its 12 volt and alterantor. It sounded like you have some funky wiring gonig on. When...

I didn't read the whole thread, but I got your email to check out your thread. Yes, you are obviously running 6 volts or through a resister wire. Need to change up some wiring. Member way back there I asked about this HEI, Points, etc etc??? Now you know why !!! Not quite as dumb as some like to...

 You are right. At the track, he wouldn't get by with it. This was the good kind of racing. At like 2am in the morning in the streets of Los Angeles. Just a bit on the illegal side. And yep, right again, he did have the occasional where it didn't work. What he wasn't happy with...

No, I am saying I could see him do a peg leg burnout, then he'd back up like he did, and he'd hook up. It was just a stock 10 bolt rear end. Nothing fancy to it all. On a rare occasions, it didn't work, and he'd spin off the line too, but not usually. Also, he had to do a dry burnout to heat...

    Video of lil bro's truck.

He must have all that dialed in on a chip including shifting and NOS solenoids, cuz his hands didn't leave the wheel. Bummer he redlighted on that one though.

How, what or why, I have not clue either how this happens, but a guy told me some bullshit once, and I knew it was bullshit too. Untill he proved it to me, I never believed him until I seen it with my own eyes. He told me has a peg legger, but he always launched off the line with about a 1 ft...

Nice Cutlass anyway. I just realized it's not a 442. I'd still own it though. What size engine in it?

    Battery

I agree with you on the warranty part. Easy Warranty is great, but how many times you want to be stranded or have to swap batteries. I have never been let down by a Delco either, just that when they are done, they are flat done, and it does not seem to be much past 36 months.

Wow !!! You either been really lucky, or you just have a fetish for Green Eyes.

Your parents did great. I have not had much luck with Delco's. Seem they get just past that warranty period and peter out. Its happened on 2 of my vechicles, and each to my mom and dad.

    Battery

I have seen that before too Dave. And figured that Johnson Controls builds to the name brand specs. For example JeemC gets 3.5 years out of an Interstate. I have rarely seen a Delco/Freedom battery make it more than 2-3 months past its said time or 3 years. Then there are Duralast and Die Hard...

    Battery

I am sure JeemC wasn't bragging about the 3.5. He is saying thats the longest he has had one last which isn't very good and he's using something else next time. I don't know who made them, but I remember way back long ago, I bought an old car with a Union 76 battery in it. Who knows how old it...

    Battery

Its not even that anymore Dave. The last NEeverstart ATV battery I bought on my way out of town to ride, I was told only had a 30day warranty. Not sure if that is just for the motorcylce batteries, but I was understanding, it was all of the smaller batteries. In my Warrior, seems like I have to...

The only good thing I can say about Wally World NEverstarts, is they do honor their warranty. My dad swears by Wal-Mart batteries because Wal-Marts are everywhere and can honor the warranty. And like I pointed out to him, he knows the warranty policy well, and asked him when has he ever had one...

Die Hards are good batteries too, also made by the same people who make the Dualast, just that the cost is much higher. My step dad refused to buy any battery but a Die Hard.

    81 Chevy/GMC 2WD Long Bed Frame

WTH are you burning tires for anyway??? If I have tires to dispose of, I drop them off behind the local, Goodyear or Firestone so they are disposed of properly. Burning tires or putting them in the landfill is illegal statewide here. I'd almost imagine nationwide. They are ground up and used to...

    81 Chevy/GMC 2WD Long Bed Frame

NO kidding. I bought this house because of the huge back yard with back yard access in a quiet Cul de Sac, so noone would bother me, and I wouldn't bother anyone. I lived here 3 days and the city came out and told me I could not park my Box Van and 16ft and 18ft tandem axles trailers in the...
