I just drove the dog snot out of this truck. It is running so much better. It shifts better and pulls better. The cats were clogged as I suspected. The exhaust drone makes me want to strangle kittens, but I will correct that later. It still labors with hills though. I think it might be a fuel...
The sheet metal is worse off than I thought. I cannot afford to replace it so I have to work with what I have. Someone tried to weld the four pieces together. That piece of molten slop was not holing anything together and I cut through it pretty easily. The sad part is I may have to weld the...
I pulled the drums to check the adjustments. All is well and the resistance I felt before was not there this time. Also, the brakes look new. The drums look like they were just installed.
I have checked YT several times. I will be getting some parts from them soon I think. I found a close out deal on a carb kit I could not turn down on another site. I go to TSC all the time for feed. I did not think to look at there tractor parts. They may have had a carb kit in stock. Brain fart.
Drove it for the first time today since my last go round. It still does not shift right. I did not drive it long enough to say for sure if there is any noticeable improvement. But I can say for sure there are still issues. I think there is something going on in the valve body.
The exhaust is...
In between all the other stuff I had going on today I got a few other things done. I got the air filter housing apart. The elements turned out well but the housing is still soaking. Underneath all that grease was a nice fuel tank. It also cleaned up quite well. No pin holes and not as much...
These parts were so caked up I could not distinguish the individual pieces. The canister containing the filter element in that condition now and I am working to clean it up.
I picked this 2N up a few months back and have not done much with it since. The deal I made with the seller was I wanted to see it run first. He got it running and it ran great. For a little while anyway...
The fuel system was so clogged up I am amazed it ran at all. So the first thing I did...
I finished up the exhaust and it is horrible. Those were by far the worse welds I have ever laid down. The material was terrible and the product I started with should have been scrapped. However, I tried to make it work anyway. I knew better and went against what I knew to be true. So, now I get...
My 87 Ranger has an A4LD automatic in it. Since I got the truck it has shifted rough. It slams into gear when I put it in drive and reverse. It also shifts in and out of gear when I am on hills. It does it on flat ground as well but not as bad nor as often. I dropped the pan and it looked decent...
I did not even come close to getting everything done this weekend. Between having to help friends unexpectedly and discovering more problems with the truck, I got very little accomplished.
The funny thing here is I have several sets of jack stands. Yet they are all being used under other non...
I agree. A complete tear down is just not feasible. However, the First Gen Ranger has quite a following already. That is why I an not concerned about making my money back on the parts truck.
I was not planning on getting this in depth on this truck. But I have to face facts. I am addicted to truck builds. This is going to be a light going over. I still have my Papa’s truck waiting to get completed. Anyhoo, what we have a 1987 Ranger STX. It was in relatively good shape when I got...
