Now that I have another truck, I can definitely say that my 1995 falls into the 4th category, but my Avalanche would probably be gone if the right deal came along.
Thanks a lot man! There was another link to the Chilton Library posted in the Helpful Automotive Links thread, but they changed the password apparently.
Just got this done on the Avalanche this morning. No more clunks and vibration!
Like Jarrod said, you'll have to remove the gas pedal on the [I guess] 03+ trucks. You have to remove the two 10mm bolts holding the gas pedal assembly (disconnect the wiring harness by pulling the red tab out)...
Good news. I got'r'done in just under two hours, and probably 1/3 of that was spent messing around.
I highly suggest you have someone help unload the springs for you while you pull out the shackle bolts. Other than that, it's a fairly easy job.
So yeah, I'm hoping my 95 will finally be level by the end of tomorrow (er... today). The instructions seem straight-forward and simple enough, but considering I've never messed with leaf springs before, is this something I can do by myself, or should I wait until I get a friend to help me out...
I'm glad you're thinking about getting rid of those chrome fender flares, I would be removing those right now if I were you.

Odds are you are right about the encoder sensor, Jarrod. There is lots of talk on several forums about the sensor showing wear and getting gummed up with oil.
Hey guys, I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on my 4WD issue. The other day while I was leaving my farm, I put my Avalanche into 4HI to make it sure it was still working. It engaged 4HI without a problem, but near the end of the driveway I got a "SERVICE 4WD" message on the DIC. I tried...
What diameter is that cutout? It looks like a 3-3/8" would fit. An Autometer Sport Comp or VDO Cockpit tach would look right at home with those other gauges.
