Need help with welder brand names

Well if you can trade a running lawnmower for a working welder, then I say go for it.

Thats what I was thinkin. Then later on upgrade to one of the big 3.

Have you welded before? If not, one of these off brands is great to start with.

I have a miller MIG myself and it works pretty good up to 1/4 steel. Il like to get in the shop an mess around with a TIG welder..... But that's a while 'nother ball game.

I could use some help on what good brand name welders. I know hobart, miller, and lincoln are good. What about campbell and farmhand welders?

Those 3. That's it. Everything else are China welders.

Hobart is owned by miller. They are the introduction series of miller welders.

Lincoln vs. Miller is a lot of personal choice and can come down to specifics of each welder. I own a full blown fabrication shop and I have both red and blue machines. Blue TIG welders, and red stick and MIG welders.

Im partial to Lincoln but I've used some pretty good ESAB and Miller welders.

If you are trading a mower for it then you can't go wrong. It will be something to learn and get started on.

I took a semister class in 8th grade and all we did was stick arc welding. I took another semister class in 12 th grade. We did stick arc welding, cutting torch tip, brazing torch tip, plasma cutter and the big mig stick welder using like a 1/4 to 1/2 dia electrode. Like what they use for welding skyscrapers and such. The bead was inch wide.

I would try and get something like a Hobart Handler 210. That's a great starting welder and is a lot cheaper then a Miller or Lincoln. It's got the same internals as a Miller except it's a tapped machine. Meaning that instead of the amperage and wire speed having infinitely variable settings the machine has 10 or so pre-set settings that you choose between.

OK. Maybe I can find used. A new one is $900. I can get 140 handler for $500.
