Is it pinging at all?

If not, I would bump it to at least 38.

How quick is your advance coming in?

Had the wife :ohnoes: helping-but i think 4000rpm-i bumped it up a tad-i was getting a pop out the exhaust-new valves so kinda did'nt think that was it-i had valves ran at a half turn-then went to 3/4 turn-got less pop-went a full turn now seems to be good-i have antipump lifters and i know im probably border line with that cam-501 lift-heads shaved 8thou and springs good up to 510 lift-the nova has been a nightmare-had everything perfect put on power stering pump an a new alt. then it started acting up-iv restab dist upteen times making sure that wasnt it-replaced the coil an moduler...about to go test it.-i know one full turn sounds like alot on valve adjust-but 350 blk/400 heads an not sure if heads where tall deck or what-plus the lifters being antipump...seems to be runing best at 1 full turn from preload-it has fluid damper so i brought number 1 up did both valves-turned balancer 90degrees then did next one in firing order adjust both valves-was told bout 5 diffrent ways an my builder suggest doing it this way but at a half turn..ssl

Pull your distributor cap and check the rotor. I have seen them come loose and cause problems. Also check for carbon tracing in the cap.

well its no better-runs but kinda crapy-tried to power brake it an see what it would do-it poped out the carb...i don't know...kinda ticed...seems like it wants more timing but im right at 36-38 intial plus mechanical with no vacum adv.....anyone wannna buy a nova.-the rotor is on tight iv had it on an off an made sure i put in on right. maybe fouled plugs? may hav to reset intial to 0 with a timing light-have rotor pointing at number one-then tear it apart to the timing chain-??? im sure i did that right the first time-it was runing fine when i had the exhaust done? what about that resistor in the dist? cap is new but i can see it fired on those studs in the dist?

How old are the wires ? Go out after dark with a spray bottle and mist the wires. If you have any bad ones you will see a light show.
