How do you change Rag Joint in steering column?

Well I got to do the input seal on the PS box on the 88, and picked up a rag joint figuring while I`m there I`d change it, But **** it appears they don`t make it easy. Anyone changed theirs?

Half is bolted, and the other half seems to be press riveted, are they fucking serious? I might just leave it....

You can do it Clancy, I've done a ton of them on the old 67-72 Chevy's. But I'll be damned if I can tell you how. Just break out the wrenches and do it.

The only way seems to be to cut the rivets.... then I`d have to replace with bolts? Shitty deal.

Post a pic of the new rag joint and maybe it will jog my memory. Seemed like you have to pull the bolt completely out of the clamp at the sector. Remove the old shaft and grind the rivets off of the old joint at the shaft. But it's been a few years, gimme some picsssssss

Sounds about right, I never replaced any rivets with rivets that I ever recall. Seems that I always bolted them back up.

I remember helping a buddy replace one on those years ago on his 78 GMC. He drilled it out and put all bolts in it if I remember right.

Grind the heads of the rivets off and punch them out, new one came with bolts that shoudl replace the rivet right.

Yeah, I figured that was the way, guess this may be my weird way to just complain about it.

When I did mine I just drilled the rivets out and replaced them with bolts and lock washers.
