That is the most likely thing... It's the last GM gasser for trucks that has peak torque down low

Hopefully they at least give it a little different tuning for the trucks... It's a peppy little engine, but you've gotta wind it out to really get it going.

I'm sure it'll be tuned differently, it's pretty easy to move power bands around with modern VVT and ignition systems.

DI is overrated. BMWs are having massive problems keeping their intake valves clean because there's nothing to clean them.

Hell, that's the WHOLE reason why injectors are positioned where they are in the intake stream.

It does seem a lot of manufactures have been having trouble with carbon build-up on DI engines. Ford, Audi, BMW but for some reason GM doesn't seem to be having many problems. I've seen many worried about carbon buildup on GM's 3.6 but never actually seen anyone that has experienced it. I believe they redesigned the PCV system to be much cleaner and use the VVT to trap gases in the combustion chambers to do away with EGR.

My guess is that the 4.3 will die (finally) and not be replaced with a Gen V derivative but with the 3.6.

Wouldn't be the worst deal, but the 3.6 still seems too complex comparing to the 4.3 and the LS due to the DOHC heads. Let's see if it will lead to a huge increasement to the price tags... :brain:

The auto industry is technology driven. If GM were to keep the 4.3 around just cause it's simple, they would be idiots. The 3.6 is a good engine that makes great power.

Why can't we just use horses like we used to?

Yeah, but WILL they is the question!

My dad's '93 Suburban with the 350 got better mileage pulling the same stuff than my 5.3 does, because the 5.3 powerband is so high compared to the 350 based engines.

Even the brand new 6.0, the peak torque is at 4200 RPM.

The 4.3 is at 2800 RPM, same as a 350.

While the powerband with the newer engines is wider, you can still notice the difference... The 5.7 gets going easier off the line than the 5.3.

Hopefully GM takes full advantage of the VVT and has peak torque and HP overlapping in normal RPM ranges for cruising.

My 4.3 did NOT have an EGR or an AIR pump... It never had carbon build up!

I seafoamed that fWONker and it barely puffed white

The 4.3 and the old 5.7 can be "archaic", whatever, but are still some of the best engines ever developed.
