At least it looks like a pushrod engine. They tend to run forever... I'd bet Ford would like to have the long term reliability of the old 302 back!

I want to see a direct injection 4.3

It's been proven that the 4.3 can hold boost... And a LOT of it

I would rather see LS style heads, sealing surfaces, etc. I doubt they could flow those old heads any better to see a gain from DI.

That's the point. I know the 4.3 is a reliable engine, but has its limitations comparing to the newer generation small-blocks (LS) :dan:

True. LS style heads would probably net a good 15 - 20HP, if not more.
There never really was much for aftermarket heads on a 4.3, unless you were going with a marine 4.3...

My guess is that the 4.3 will die (finally) and not be replaced with a Gen V derivative but with the 3.6.

That is the most likely thing... It's the last GM gasser for trucks that has peak torque down low

Hopefully they at least give it a little different tuning for the trucks... It's a peppy little engine, but you've gotta wind it out to really get it going.

DI is overrated. BMWs are having massive problems keeping their intake valves clean because there's nothing to clean them.

Hell, that's the WHOLE reason why injectors are positioned where they are in the intake stream.
