Iv checked the linkage and it shifts up and down in every gear-its a fresh rebuld by a shop-it won't drop down to first manually-it will shift on its own through all gears and i can shift down to second-but when shift down to first-it don't down shift to first-while in first manually it will shift on its own to second...any idea?

You've taken the linkage off, and done it right at the trans with nothing hooked up?

Have you called the shop that just built it?

yea-i took it off and made sure it was mated right-its right i can hear it click to each and every gear-no i havent called the shop yet-wanted to see what you guys thought first-thought maybe i was over looking something an didnt want to tie up his time til i had some kinda of answer...kick down works two. Could something of broke inside the tranny? Or not be hooked up right inside?

It almost sounds like a linkage or shifter issue. If you can manually put it in first with you hand and it will down shift on its own.

Yea thats what i thought two..but it goes up and down through every gear manually but when your driving it and try to down shift to first it don't yet the shifter shows its in first and i hear it click-yet its not- then when you take off in 1st and holding it in 1st it will shift on its own to second-i can hold second no problem there. Maybe i will go get a b&m floor shifter and try that-must be its linkage some how...

Hmmm. I would call the trans guy then.

We have had the linkage/shifter need adjustment before where it felt like it was shifting but not quite pulling it far enough and staying in second.

If it was a 400 I would suspect vacuum module, but in a 350 the only thing I personally can think of is something in the valve body of its not in the linkage adjustment.

I'm interested in hearing what you find out.

I know a good way to solve your problem. Just stick a manual valve body in it. Forget about that automatic crap.

When i put my th350 in my truck i bought a shiftlinkage kit from speedway motors. Well to put it in i had to remove the little C braket were the original shift linkage hooks up. I installed the new peice and thought i had it all adjusted fine then noticed it was acting all funny. Well when i remoced the C barket and installed my other one i guess the nut came loose on the inside of the tranny were the shift rod is conected. I had to remove the pan and just tighten ever thing up then worked great. They may not have tighten it like they should have.

Remove ur linkage and try shifting it with your hand if there is a lot 1/2 inch of play that is most likly the problem?

And as a side note ive have never heard of a th350 tranny shifting on its own from 1st to 2nd if you manualy have the shifter in 1st? The th400 will.

And do you have your kickdown cable hooked up? Or does it even have a kickdown cable? Even if you're not using the kickdown its a good idea to at least have it hooked up in the tranny or it will do all kinds of funny stuff.
