Shopping for Lawnmower Oil

Well from my limited diesel experience,, HD is high detergent. But I wasn't quickly finding supporting info on the net from Supertech. Go figure right.

Well it might mean heavy duty then. I didn't research it on SuperTech. I'm just use to it being high detergent. I could be wrong then, it might be heavy duty.

These mowers thats oil being changed in is 5 years and up to around 20 years.

I have Amsoil 15w40 semi synthetic in all my little 4 cycle engines, even my Honda generator

I'm with ya there Scott but David is just going to turn and sell what he fixes. No need to put expensive stuff in, unless he wants to add a warranty and have the customer continue to us AMSOIL. I know some shops that do that. They extend the factory warranty on their own if AMSOIL is used, of course that is on new engines.

I ran out of the 15w40 XL, and put in some of the OE 5w30 I had left, Nick.

The Briggs does NOT like it

It burns it, and lets out a puff of blue smoke when shutting down

I know it's a no-no to run 5w30, but I just had to try it.

Sounds like the mower is worn out for it to do that. the 5w-30 should be fine. Heavy oils in lawn mowers isn't needed and most think that because it is air cooled and runs mostly at max rpm they need that extra weight.
