About a week ago a whistling sound started when I started the truck and it's super annoying. I can hear it over the exhaust and the whistling gets louder/higher pitched as the RPM's increase. Sounds like it's coming from under the dash where the heater core is but doesn't make the sound with the fan on. I've been told it could be the alternator. :dunno: Just want to see what you guys think about it.

Here's a quick vid i took on my way home from school. May need to turn up the volume its pretty quiet but you can definately hear the whislte. Sorry the videos not that great.

Odd. It does sound like it's coming from under the hood. Can you hear it with the hood up?

The engine is much louder than it but you have very faintly hear the high pitched sound and not at all with the hood closed. The sound is much more prominent in the cab.

Get the ether out, see if you can find a vaccuum leak.

Don't own one or do i know how to use one or probably anyone that does. Can they be had fairly cheap or is it something a shop would do cheaper than the cost of one?

....complete mind fart on that one....I'll go get some ether.

Starting fluid is what I mean. Engine speed will pick up if it inhales it through a leak. Stay away from the air filter.

I had a cracked fitting in the manifold making a whining noise, not saying that is what you are hearing, but it drove me nuts

As for the alternator possibility, take the belt off and see if it goes away.
