My mother-in-law is looking at getting a newer SUV. She currently has an 05' trailblazer. She really likes the storage room in the back. She is looking at getting something with the 3rd row seating though because grand kids are starting to come, (not me, wife's older sister.) Anyways, she is a hardcore GM fan, so getting her away from that could be a challenge, but I am willing to take that challenge if there is something better. She doesn't want anything that looks like a van. I don't know what to suggest to her, and I figured you guys could give some nice insight on a good SUV for her.

If she will only consider GM, the Acadia would be a good option.

If you can sway here away from GM, I'd check out the new Ford Explorer or Ford Edge. I haven't driven the Explorer but had an Edge for a rental recently and was very impressed. The new Jeep Grand Cherokees are nice but I don't know enough about them to know if a 3rd row is an option or not.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, the Edge probably doesn't have a 3rd row option either.

If she wants something from GM with a third row and doesn't look like a van she's pretty much stuck with a Tahoe or Suburban (or relatives). Haven't personally driven one but based on how nice my Jeep drives I'd recommend its cousin the Durango if a 3rd row is needed.

Wifey loves her Suburban simply because it will haul all the grandkids and a ton of stuff.I know it's big and Linda was intimidated by the size at first, but after driving it a couple of weeks she felt comfortable in it.Keep in mind she went from an '87 Mustang LX 5.0l 5sp. to the Suburban....

Only prob is she won't let me mod it(lift, big tires, tune, etc. :()
