Alright, a little short notice, but there's a Buy 3, Get 1 Free sale going on here I have Monday and Tuesday to get in and buy the tires (I'm just gonna buy them now and schedule the install at a later time). I need to pick out and get tires for my brother's car. It's a 1997 Dodge Stratus with 169k (tires will probably outlast the car, but it's still a great car both mechanically and cosmetically).

Anyways, we're not looking to break the bank by any means; hopefully less than $100/tire. I'm only looking at Cooper tires and from Blain's Farm & Fleet. The car gets driven year round so snow traction is important. The car currently has 195/70R14 and is the factory size.

I'm kinda leaning towards the CS4 (80k mile warranty; way overkill) (link to Cooper's site) which would be $273 for 3 tires plus mounting/disposal/tax.

You guys have any thoughts? Thanks! :tmc:

Price is great but I know nothing about the tire mentioned.

Yeah, I wish the truck tires I wanted were that cheap and had that kind of warranty!! I'll be looking at $800-850 all said and done with maybe a 50k warranty with this same promo.

Thanks Jim! :zembonez:

Mileage warranty = tread compound softness + friction curve

A "hard" tire will last forever, have moderate to poor traction, and should do alright in alot of downpour and snow due to the tire maintaining it's tread depth. Presuming it's compound doesn't plasticize in the cold weather (which an all-season shouldn't above about 20 - 30 degrees F).

Cost is really one of the least important avenues in buying a tire, at least in my opinion. The tires you put on a car determine EVERYTHING. A good tire will save your ass ... I have had to do full threashold braking and hard cornering to avoid people running stoplights and even one guy that decided to pass in oncoming traffic that clipped my mirror at 100+ MPH of differential speed. A slightly less responsive tire, a foot here or there, and I hit someone HARD, possibly fatal.

It's a large reason why I drive sports cars ... I like having the power, braking, and handling advantage over the drooling masses. Sure they are fun, but it's the best safety tool you got besides your brain.

I agree with Alan...

Make sure the tires are gonna "DO" what you need them to do...then buy what works.
Price is a secondary consideration...

Tires are the "ONLY THING" you have between you and the road.

Thanks for all the info Alan!

Jim, I'm surprised you can even keep tires on the Caddy with the way you drive! :D

Well, my dad has these same tires on his Dodge Neon and they seem to be doing great so I'm gonna go with a set of the CS4.

Thanks guys! :tmc:

Actually, I get good mileage from my tires...
I usually buy a tread compound that is a blend of High Performance and long mileage.
I always run "V" speed rated tires on the Caddy...

I was just giving you crap, but good to know!

Bought the tires. $365 all said and done for 4 tires. There's a $50 mail-in rebate. Add to that an alignment that's around $65. I made the appointment for the install for a week from tomorrow. Because of this, I had to take the tires with me home. Darn. Guess I have to put up with the awesome smell of tires in the garage for a week. :D

My brother will still be all done under $400. Pretty damn good if you ask me!

Seems kinda high for a set of 15's or 16's. I just bought a set of Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo's for my truck (235/75/17) for $570 shipped and spent $56 (+ tax) to get them mounted at Walmart.
