Hey guys, lookin for a tuner/chip for my '01 Ram 2500 and wanted to see if anyone on here's got some suggestions. I'm more interested in mpg over flat out horse power being its now a almost daily driver. Thanks

Well, I'd probably say smarty is the way to go for Cummins tuning as far as MPG I'm not too sure

If you are looking for a software based tune R12 is the best for MPG's...

For hand held tuners with levels SW makes a really good tune and you will get about the same mpg results no matter the level of tune.

Both will give power and mpg's with the lowest EGT's over other tunes...

I would also recommend blocking the EGR...

Awesome thanks, yea having a handheld one isn't a really big deal to me. Later on when money's not as big a deal i'd love to have one that'd just be all power with some different setting but right now i'm cool with just one to plug in and help out them mpg's haha. But if something handheld like i believe the smarty is, is best then i can go that route. I'd looked at the Edge EZ and Edge MileageMax, anyone know anything about those? If not...i may go with smarty. And would you mind explaining the EGR?

Friend of mine is running the Edge Juice and Attitude. He ultimately wants stack the smarty. But I am trying to convince him that he will be running into issues once he starts stacking tunes like that.

About EGR.

A lot of guys will block the EGR thinking that its restrictive... But I primarily like it blocked/removed to reduce soot into oil ect. You will never be able to get rid of it but I am used to black oil on first start after oil change. With these changes it you will see that it starts to get black after a few 100 miles.. Some guys claim 1000-3000 miles before it turns completely black....

Some guys also claim .5 better fuel mileage and a little enhanced in the power department but I installed my blocker plates at the same time as tune and exhaust so I wont be able to provide accurate information!

P.S.

Its really nice to see another diesel member on the site!
