I understand the basic principal of having a custom tune to maximize performance, gas mileage(or gas usage) etc. ,but I am a little confused as to some of the specifics.'

For example at some point I will rebuild my motor into a 383ci stroker, but for starters I want to swap out my intake to an Edlebrock Gen 3 vortec intake, put some Thorley headers on and a pair of spintecs or magnaflows with a dual exhaust(obviously) and delete my bank 2 O2 sensors.

Will my truck run like a giant turd after doing each of these and I would need an IMMEDIATE tune? Most of the exhaust shops I talk to DON'T do a tune after changing the exhaust components and several mechanic shops I have spoke to will bolt on,but not tune. If I install anything in my yard (i.e. an intake) I obviously couldn't tune it myself either.

Sorry if this is an easy Q&A for some, but I haven't a clue on this.

Thanks in advance.

The truck should still run alright without a retune. But to take full advantage of the parts you put on a retune would be something to look into in the future.

As far as the rear O2's go they will need to be either tuned out or get some sims and run in their place. I need some simulators myself just haven't taken the time to locate some.

Thanks for clearing that up guys. I was thinking it would run, but didn't want to change that shiz out and have it limping out the driveway/shop and I would be S.O.L. until I got a tune.:ohnoes:

Here's a link for you :jrod:.

and for those intersted here's a read on O2 sensor deletes/simulators:

When talking to a credited muffler shop on my exhaust options, the manager told me to get rid of the cats, use the simulators and "if" we ever get emission checks back have cats installed.:dunno:

You can always throw some high flow cats on so your exhaust doesn't have to smell. :dunno:

Glad to help.

That's what my plan was. A pair of magnaflow high flows. The exhaust guy said go without all together.:dunno:

If your saying cats help reduce the exhaust fumes (or the smell at least) I'll spend the extra $ on them. I thought by upgrading my intake and exhaust components and having a tune wiuld virtually do the same.
