I am confused.

So are you sure it's a 305 or are you just assuming he was lying about the crate motor since the VIN said it came with a 305?

I had a 305 for 187K miles in my '01 and swapped in a 350. The VIN stayed the same.

He said it was rebuilt crate 350 with low mileage. The vin on the dash says the oem engine is a 305 not 350. The engine has GM 5.0L stamped on in the back above where the bellhousing bolts up at.

That sucks :fume:

Found this on a website:

10243878 96-up 305 2-bolt Vortec Roller

If thats what it is then its got the 305TBI setup on a 305 vortec rebuilt block.

No telling how it ran then.I wonder if the older heads from an OBD1 engine would work on an OBD2 engine? :dunno:wait,I worded that wrong, would a TBI intake fit on an OBD2 engine?

Yes.

OK,so the heads didn't change, just the intake manifold...

Sucks to hear that Dave.

Is there a chance it was a 305 that was made into a 350 or 355? (no idea if that's possible or not)

Yeah, my lil brother used to have a Monte Carlo with a 305. He had it rebuilt and bored out to almost a 350. And then he installed aluminum Corvette heads on it, and an Edelbrock intake with a Holley 650 carb.
