Nick. What do you think about the 15000 mile change intervals being pushed by some of the synthetic companies?

I think it is possible as long as the companies stand behind their product and engineer it for that distance. If you look at BMW and Mercedes they recommend 10 and 15k mile oil changes. VW has been recommending 10k for a while now on gas and diesel vehicles.

The downfall to it is the average individual will fall behind on other preventative maintenance as well as keeping track of oil level. I run into that now with some of my customers. They feel just because they don't need to change their oil but once a year that they don't need to check it either.

Walmart brand :jester:

I'm comfortable around 4k with conventional oil. My Silverado (gets Mobil 1) is more like 6-7k.

I've been changing mine by the "OLM". Sometimes I'll let it get to 5k, as the OLM comes on around 4400.

the 3000 mies role i wont mind if the oil prices was like in the 90's here

mobil 1 each quart was for 2$ here

i would change every 1500 miles if they were cheap like that

It serves no benefit to change oil too often, especially with synthetics. From readingon some oil discussion sites, many times it was brought up that changing synthetic too early actually does more harm then good, different agents in synthetic need time to bond to the metal to help protect and clean the internals.

Whether or not its 100% accurate, the fact still remains that manufactures and oil companies and even shops that change the oil are all saying 3000 miles is worthless so why anyone continues to argue against experts recommendations is beyond me...
