Dennis, have you ever removed your A-pillar plastic pieces?

Anyone have any advice on removing airbags? Do these things go off easily? :ohnoes:

What about removing the steering wheel? I like the newer one better and I might buy that off it too.

Right now, I'm planning on heading to my S10 tomorrow morning and starting to take its dash out. I might as well get a little experience with it before taking a shot at the one in the junkyard.

Yes. When I installed the overhead console :D

You want an a-pillar guage pod?

And nope, never pulled the steering wheel.

How do they come out? (the A-pillars)

Which OHC did you install? I'd like to add one too....if I find one.
There is a list of a bunch of them on zr2usa that link to s10forum, but all the pics have been deleted from the guys PhotoBucket. :fume:
I'd like one with map lights, compass, temp, and the HomeLink if they made one like that. :dunno:

No, I really don't have any use for a gauge pod right now. I would like one for my Silverado though; probably a dual gauge.

I installed the short console... It had temp, compass, fuel mileage, and homelink... I don't think there's an OHC for the S-series without homelink... :uhoh:

IIRC, the a-pillar just pops out... The same annoying clips that hold the door sill in. Just go slow to make sure there's not differences :)

It's a dual guage pod :naughty:

I never got around to putting it in because I had trouble finding the paint to color match it...

Well, I got my dash out this morning. Took me 2hrs 45min. I used a cardboard box and punched holes in it to screw the screws into and label them, and it worked like a charm. I ended up with about 60 screws, but I know some are missing from the the previous owner took it out (he also put some back in the wrong spots).

The A-pillars came out WAY easier than expected.

I had only a couple problems
1) How the hell does the passenger airbag come out?
I left it in and it made the dash super heavy and hard to get out. I know there's gotta be a way to remove it without removing the entire dash.
2) The defroster vent is a PITA!
I cracked mine slightly, but you won't be able to tell once it is back in place and in the shape its supposed to be in.

Tools used were very basic. I didn't need any specialty tools or any that wouldn't be found in a basic mechanics set.

All in all, this went much better than expected and I couldn't be happier. No pics (don't ban me!), but I'm gonna try to take some tomorrow when I take out the other one. I feel that a good write-up should be done with large pictures for all to see.

So my main questions/problems right now are the two bolded above and this:
How do you remove the steering wheel/airbag?
I'd like to remove it since it will be easier to get the dash out (even though it is not necessary) and I'll probably buy it too and swap mine out.
I picked up the steering wheel puller from AutoZone along with the lock cylinder tool (just in case even though I don't think that has to come out).

The drivers air bag comes off with two deals on the back of the steering wheel that you push in and it pops off

The steering wheel airbag is generally removed by inserting a tool into the 2 small holes on the back side of the steering wheel to depress the mounting "tabs". Make sure the battery is disconnected and you have waited AT LEAST 15 minutes before you mess with it. I don't know how the passenger airbag is held in, I would imagine some bolts/clips which are accessible through the glove box opening, but that is just a guess.

The S-Series is really easy to take apart...
You're not kidding! I can see how things were designed to speed up the assembly on the line. I love how everything was 7mm except for like 8 bolts that were 10mm. I just don't get why they used any philips head screws. :dunno: I'd like to replace them with 7mm bolts/screws, but I don't know if they will fit alright.

Thanks.

Thanks. There's no battery in the Blazer (that I'll be working on) so the electrical system should be pretty drained after, oh, say a week of sitting.

I think I found a couple write-ups on s10forum on the pass airbag and steering wheel, but I found them just before I had to leave for work. I'll definitely be reading them through tonight!
