I think that as far as the engine... it means that the starter, bellhousing, and some other bolts, were metric.
After 1999-2000 ALL bolts are metric.
That's what I was thinking because I know the later S10's used the newer ECM. Plus, everything is done differently for modding the electrical system in those years.

I'm gonna call the junkyard tomorrow and pay for the dash (gotta pay before they remove it). I'm also gonna see if I can remove it instead of them. This vehicle is still a rolling vehicle and only had damage to the front right so there shouldn't be a safety concern.

Dennis, do you know anything about the ZN4 code? I really don't think GM would change the dash.

And yeah, I was really shocked the radio worked right away.

There's the rare chance they changed some wires for the cluster... But I can't imagine it being anything more than under-hood things...

Nothing was wrong with my dash, so I never looked into changing it... Just wanted a new cluster

Since you're going to have the dash out, you might as well change the heater core while it's out.

Actually, the previous owner did (along with the radiator, water pump, t-stat, and hoses). I think he didn't remove it properly and did the damage to it himself. Corners of mine are cracked/flaking off and some plastic-threaded areas are broken off.

I shouldn't have to worry about any wiring changes as I will be re-using all my wiring. To my knowledge, the dash from the junkyard will only be the dash (any and all plastic pieces) without wiring (unless they include the fuse panel).

EDIT: I just found what seems to be a great write-up on how to remove the dash!

Yep. That's about all I've found.

I'm going for it. If it doesn't fit (for some odd reason), I'll re-sell it on CL.

You shouldn't have any issues

However, you'll probably want to do a coolant flush, from what it sounds like, the previous owner wasn't too particular about how he did his work

Without knowing what kind of head gasket that engine has, you want to keep the dexcool refreshed.

I can contact him to see if he did a flush or not. I just hate to throw out all that new coolant, but I guess I could filter it.

Again, I'd like to know the head and intake gaskets, but I don't want to make a huge mess either.

I think I'll run it how it is this winter and see how it goes. If problems arise, gaskets and coolant will get changed next year.

Just called the junkyard and told them I had the code (even though I don't).

They're gonna let me take it out myself. I asked it if would a problem if it took more than part of a day and he said that wouldn't be a problem (I have to work at 2pm so I can only work on it from 8-1 and then drive straight to work). So Thursday and Friday mornings I will be working on that! Now I just need to figure out the tools I'll need. :uhoh:

Dennis, have you ever removed your A-pillar plastic pieces?

Anyone have any advice on removing airbags? Do these things go off easily? :ohnoes:

What about removing the steering wheel? I like the newer one better and I might buy that off it too.

Right now, I'm planning on heading to my S10 tomorrow morning and starting to take its dash out. I might as well get a little experience with it before taking a shot at the one in the junkyard.
