There's nothing new in the 5.0, dual VVT and DOHC V8s have been around and proven. Forced induction on gas engines have historically been unreliable and DI is still maturing. Couple that with trying to prove a V6 can do the work of a V8 and its just a long, uphill battle. If I was in the market though I'd strongly consider one though, but I always like the new gadgets.

its new in anything domestic... Find a Ford dodge or gm with dohc and vvt on the same motor. I will concede on it being just a v6 but my point was fords new 5.0 is just as new and fancy. so the argument of fearing something holds little weight. And why is di maturing? It's Been in diesels for 16 in fords alone.

Even in the case of these two engines, you still have a competitor that has it's roots in traditional V8 design. You want to call them both apples so bad you're missing the point. Are they both new, yes. Are they both new concepts, given the platform in which they are being installed and the loads they'll be taking on, no. V8's have been used for hauling and towing for a long time. V6's, not so much.

I did not know that the ecoboost requires premium fuel.

So in my eyes I think the 5.0 would be my choice because it only needs regular. I am pretty darn sure that the 5.0 can get the same mileage as the ecoboost with a tune and 91+ fuel...just sayin'...

Cadillac has had VVT "AND" DOHC on the Northstar V8 for a number of years...
Now they have VVT, DOHC "AND" DI on the newer V6's in the CTS and SRX SUV.

It runs on regular, says so on fords site and in my owners manual...
so, again, the ecoboost is rated with better mpg and the same fuel

In a truck? Nope, and since I was already told my comment on supercharged v6;s didnt count, neither do any of caddy's car motors. Ford has have VVT and DOHC for years also. go look at a focus svt

Good to know dude. So what was that whole ordeal with the pickuptrucks.com test about the truck running rich to cool the turbos down and that killed the towing mileage, and the author blaming it on the 86 fuel? Or am I crazy and that never happened?...:dunno:

I am glad you got the ecoboost so I can get feedback from an actual owner.

From what the test said, you will see better results towing when running premium, but I havent read that part of my owners manual. I was to busy playing with the sync system the last two days haha

Ford blows ass.

It's cool, i'd be pissed two if I had a weak motor'd truck that would get its ass drug by a v6... seeing as they don't belong in trucks and all
