My concern about boost is from the lack of boosted gas engines in trucks. The strain of getting a 6000-7000 pound truck up to speed over a long period of time might show problems.

I have already seen some trucks fitted with aftermarket turbochargers performing their duties and no major problems to be reported. What we must expect from a factory setup would be even more reliability because it's integrated to the original truck project...

ITs a pretty mild amount of boost. and I have seen tons and tons of 150,000 mile lightnings....

Ford isnt going to throw a garbage motor in these trucks and gamble on them to this extent if it wasnt tested to handle the job.

I say 5.0.

1) It's not a V6
2) With boost, it can be a beast
3) The sound alone is intiminating :ohnoes:
Why the hate for the v6? It makes more power, better mpg, tows more...

1) It's not a V6

Seems like I'm not the only one who dislike V6 engines. But since it has some boost I could actually consider it as an option...
I agree, i wouldnt get the standard 3.7L unless i wanted a base model truck for fleet use.

The only 6 cylinder engines I like are either from Cummins or sporty European cars. IMO, boost will cause reliability problems with the EB. Being under boost for long hauls can cause premature wear or failure.
Wasn't it you who just a few posts ago mentioned boosting a 5.0? A motor not designed for it...

I also like Cummins and some European INLINE-6 engines such as BMW ones and the old ones made by Mercedes-Benz. About boost: I'm not so afraid of it because current productive processes allow to make engine parts beefy enough to handle with it, and have been used successfully in other markets.
You guys are complaining about the ecoboost, its tiny turbos and a piss ass 12psi, yet you'll all consider diesels and the nearly 40psi the new ones run? And dont give me that shit that diesels are designed for it. The ecoboost was built to run boost, from the start. Its not a motor ford pulled out of a bin and said, lets slap some fucking turbo's on this bitch and run the piss out of it. Ford said, lets build a small displacment v6, direct injection, run some boost and market the **** out of it. Go look at the tear down video of the motor, the components are beefed.

I wasn't complaining about the EcoBoost for it to be turbocharged.

Simmer.

Trying to convince a group of people who've been driving V8's for decades that a V6 is a legitimate substitution is going to be a long, slow war, not one quick battle. Don't let this stuff piss you off because it's just not going to go any faster than it's going to go. It'll be years before there's any empirical proof as to the legitimacy of these engines. Once you get that, you'll actually be able to sway opinions.

:withstupid: :applause:

It can be a freak deal for an American raised with a V8 or at least a V6 in the house, but let's wait to see Ford trying to replace the non-turbo V6 with an EcoBoost 4cyl...

I dunno. I was raised with v8s and diesels. Guess I just accept change easier. But I have owned 4 engines with forced induction not counting diesels, so for me its just another day.
