My whole thing on electric cars is how long can they go and how effecient are they. I don't know shit about them but those are my concerns.

It does look sexy though!
Base model has 160 mile range. More than enough for regular day-to-day drivers.

Even using their numbers here, you would have to drive this car 20 years to make up the difference between it and a standard $20k commuter car in fuel savings..........I know they are not trying to compete with $20k commuter cars feature/content wise, but from an economics standpoint, it just doesn't make much sense. :dunno:

To be fair though, you need to compare a comparably equipped car. I don't know, I've never been in one, but I'd guess this Tesla is a little nicer than a Cruze or Focus. :dunno:

You could easily spend $50k+ on a gas burning sedan.

this is my point, you have to look at a similarly equipped sedan to price compare..the looks of that model appear to be around 35-40k car, and then your paying the premium of a eco-friendly car...so it would take you between 5-10 years to make up the differnce, but also the people who are buying these care about their carbon footprint....

I'd say it borders more towards a premium sports cars than an average family sedan. How many base-model family sedans can do 0-60 in 5.6 seconds? It's not a rocket but it is quick for a little sedan. At this point, though, it is more about driving something that doesn't rely on gas. Gas prices will never, ever come back down. They only increase over time. Ten years ago it was $2/gallon...and it's averaging over $3.50/gallon now. Who knows how high it will be in another ten years?

For 50 large it better be a good performer.

2011 Honda Accord EX 0-60 mph 6.1 Quarter Mile 14.6 is about 26 grand and a pretty nice vehicle.

Yes sir.

Actually I am not trying to. First generation vehicles using new technology are always expensive. I actually look forward to the next few generations of electric vehicles as batteries evolve and become much better. I'd bet they are pretty popular in 10 years.

I'm not sold on an electric car till they mass produce fuel cell vehicles. It'll be the only way to make cheap, efficient cars that actually do not have a carbon footprint. Batteries still kill the environment, and you still have to charge them using coal-fired plants.

The car looks sexy though.
