Jon,

That sounds like a pretty good plan to me.
Sell the truck.
Buy the Civic.
Drive it awhile and get your finances straightened out.

Then save a few bucks... and trade the Civic and the extra cash for a "BETTER" car or truck and then it is also paid for.

Drive that one for a while... save a little more and then UPGRADE again...each time making sure you pay cash for the newer one.

You will be surprised how fast the savings will add up once you have no big ol' truck payment to suck your money up each month.
It won't take long and you will be able to buy whatever kind of car or truck you want and drive it home "PAID FOR"

Oh... one other thing... they run a lot better when they are not hauling around a big ol' payment book all time. :D

I know...been there..done that...

It's not heaven . . . it's Iowa!
I'll agree with everyone else. If you can sell your truck and get 5 or 6 k up, that's AWESOME! I don't know if I'd want a $500 2oyr old Civic to be my sole vehicle (wifie's not included) :dunno:

But even if you buy some $2k car with some miles, not having the payment is worth a LOT!

..... figure if I wreck it that bad ill probably be dead anyways.

And your idea was almost good until that sentence right there. So sell the truck, downgrade to affordable point A to B driver, save the money for repairs that may come around and general savings.

Don't buy the bike. Even if you buy it out right, one "small" wreck, and you'll be paying out the ass in repairs. A friends just spend like $2500 on repairs, all he did was lay down through a turn. A "small" wreck, that he walked away from. If you're thinking about a sport bike, insurance will get ridiculously stupid real quick. Buying a bike for the reason of, to save gas money, is not a good one. If thats the real purpose, buy a scooter! Depending on state laws, no insurance needed, very cheap, very gas efficient, very affordable, very much what you're looking for.

This is just my stinky hole on the situation. Remember there are other place to save as well in every day life. I may have a couple spreadsheets somewhere that can help you budget things out. Let me know if you're interested.

I'm not going to not buy a bike just because I may wreck it. If that was the case I would sit at home all day and do nothing to put myself in danger. Driving a car I could die also. The reason I probably wouldn't carry full coverage on a bike is because 1) I wouldn't have to fix it right away 2) My best friends dad works for a Honda Dealership and not only get me parts cheap but also will do the work for nothing. He is just that kind of guy.

I don't know if some of you didn't see it or not, but that civic has a brand new engine in it. The car runs like a top, not a problem with it other than some interior cosmetic stuff, that really wouldn't matter to me. I wouldn't have a problem driving it as a daily driver. My friend that is getting rid of it just upgraded to an 06' civic because he was tired of driving a "beater."

I don't think the Civic is a bad idea, as long as it is reliable. It would be much wiser to drive it, even for a year, then look for something nicer you can pay cash for IF you are having problems with the Civic. Otherwise, drive it till the wheels fall off and put your money into savings or paying off other debt.
