Bowtie painting???

Ok so on my 90's silverado i want to paint the bowtie to match the paint when i repaint the bed. how can i do this? it's a huge piece of hard clear plastic. :dunno: :lol:. i dont know how to get the paint to stick. do i need to remove the hard plastic over it and peal off the gold w.e. it is?

Scuff it with a scotch pad (after a serious washing) and prime it. Paint with Duplicolor and clear. Mine lasted years like that.

Pop it off, soak in some heavy duty paint stripper, get the backside clear and smooth, paint backside of bowtie, put back on.



Edit: do Jim's way, this Way is way too much work.

sand, wipe off (I used alcohol), adhesion promoter, paint, clear

I guess you don't have to use adhesion promoter, I did, but primer should hold for at least a year.

I actually sanded mine with a real fine grit sandpaper, then sprayed it when I did my Silverado. Getting several coats of clear should keep it looking good.
