Buy new and trade every two years and you don't have to worry about it...? I thought that was your M.O., Zem?? :jester:
License fees come round every year.

Sounds like a lot of you guys pay a lot more than we do here.

Texas does not do a state income tax or personal property tax. You pay sales tax on your vehicle and then just license plate renewals each year after that.

That's right. It's inspection that is good for 2 when you buy the vehicle.. :uhoh:

The Ford = $230 something a year (vanity plates + regular registration, which includes 5 different country, city, school, and wheel taxes)

The Dodge = $180 something a year

Add in - every other year, after the vehicle is 5 years old, smog inspection.

We don't have state tax here, yet.

$85 I think
You're close.

WI
(as a reference, a car/van/SUV is $75)
Class A (up to 4,500lbs) = $75/yr......compact truck (usually)
Class B (up to 6,000lbs) = $84/yr......1/2 ton (usually)
Class C (up to 8,000lbs) = $106/yr....3/4 ton (usually)
Then there's more that are based on the weight of the vehicle.
Collector = twice the annual fee plust $50; good for life
Custom = add $15 to the price each year

Here's all WI registration fees.

It use to be that Class A plates were cheaper than a car was. So people were putting Class A's on vans and SUV's to save money. Well, the DMV caught on to that :(.

i was only a dollar off.
I know :). I just went more indepth. :D
Actually, isn't if you renew online, you get charged $1 or is it $3? I've never done it before.

Does anyone else have this kind of system where it goes by the vehicle's capacity (more or less)?

The really stupid thing is that I see guys driving around with Class A's on 1/2 tons (the only ones to me that can get away with it are the RCSB), and I also see guys with 1/2 tons having Class C's.....talk about over paying

But that IS a cool thing too. I rarely have to have one of my cars inspected.

I think if you pay with a CC you get that extra fee tacked on. Same goes for when you buy hunting and fishing licenses. If you don't pay cash you gotta pay an additional $3.

If I remember right it was around $78 for 2 years. NY goes by title weight somehow so the heavier it is the more it costs. My car was around $50 the last time.

A lot of guys think if they register for more they won't have any trouble if they haul over weight. They don't realize that of the possible tickets for being over weight the most expensive is for being over the vehicles weight rating, being over your registration is relatively cheap.
