'08 Silvi 4x2 ext cab 5.3L 4spd, 3.73 rear, 20" stock rims. Was wondering about normal trans temp operations? It's been warm in So Cal, 90's and 100's lately and I've seen my trans temp get about as high 189F. Just wondering at what temp should one start to worry?

If this has been posted elsewhere, my apologies, I'm just too lazy to RTFF right now.

I regularly see 180 temps with mine on 100 degree Summer days. Everything I have read says 210 and under is fine. If you think about it, engine oil lives at that temp and above every day. In fact, there are hot spots in the engine that oil temperature probably exceeds 250 degrees. Water temp is set at 210. Trans temps consistently north of 200 would worry me.

220f is when i`ll start taking it easy, when trans oil gets to 250f + its bbq time.

My temp guage for the coolant is usually at about 220.:dunno: Is that the correct running temp for the GMT-800's? or should I be closer to 210?

The cluster gauge is really not that accurate as far as actual temp goes. Its reading is approximate. The thing to watch for is a sudden change in your normal temp. Yours sounds fine.

If I really get on it I will dip into the 180's but I believe that is SOP for these transmissions.

in the summer I usually stay around 160-170 degrees. I have a vette servo and a tune also. If im towing it's in the
180's

i have my tranny temp gauge sensor in the test port, its not the most accurate but it shows my transmission getting up to 160-170 at times, i will be adding B&M stacked plate cooler very soon though to drop those temps i can notice a difference between a cool tranny and a warm one.
