Why lower a 4x4?

Not at all, it is badass. daddy, Bigredmariner, DV2000NJ, 1LOW4x4, and others have lowered 4x4's, check out their rides- no rice at all.

I always preferred 4x4's to be more trail-oriented, then a lowered one wouldn't make too much sense. BTW if it's to run low why to spend more for a 4WD?

Most people (most) don't set out to buy a 4wd vehicle and lower it. There are several reasons why people would modify the vehicle they already have, and the main one is money. Lots of times that vehicle is already paid off.

It's all been pretty well covered in here already so I wont say what's already been said.

What really gets me is the close-minded idea that a 4wd truck HAS to be an offroad only truck. People just can't wrap their minds around it. You say "well my truck is a 2wd, but I only ever use it to haul on the road". Well what happens when you have to turn off the road into a soggy yard to unload a washing machine or something? You're going to get stuck and the world will laugh.

I always explain to them, it's like a 2wd, only with traction! Its optional! They say, why not AWD? I say, because wouldn't you rather have OPTIONAL AWD? I don't want to eat up suspension parts like the AWD SSS's do. I like to do 2 wheel burnouts. With the touch of a button, I can go from 2wd to 4 in a second. And then back.

If you really think about it, every truck ever made should be 4wd. Whether high or low. Think about most rear ends and their open setup. You mainly have 1 wheel trying to push that whole truck in the event of you getting stuck or in heavy rain. Thats an epic fail IMO.

There are so many uses to 4wd on pavement.

I cant even believe people are still making this argument.

I don't want the extra weight of the transfer case... :D2
Oh, so we can still slap a IFS setup in and just leave out the T-case. Ha! Didn't see that one coming did you! :D

I like to have 4wd if I'm towing off-pavement (grass, gravel, sand) and also can be useful for pulling a boat out of a wet boatlanding (I've seen guys trying to pull out huge cruisers with 2wd and they sit there and burn their tire, not tires).

I don't know about anyone else, but I've never tried pulling out a stuck vehicle with a 2wd truck just because I know I'll sit there and spin.

For the added weight of 4x4, the increase in capabilies is a great trade-off IMO.

If I had a 4WD truck I would want to use it for mudding at least once a week, then a lowered one wouldn't fit my requirements. About heavy rain or some stucks (not so extreme), for this reason a lot of 2WD trucks come with LSD rear ends. Sure it's not as effective as 4WD but already helps.
