Clean tires do make a difference.

When I see a clean truck with dirty tires, it drives me nuts. People think they dont matter. Well they do! EVen on low pro tires like on my rig, you can tell the difference.

You dont need to go offroading to get a dirty tire. You dont need to drive through salt or snow. We live in southern texas, And this suburban never leaves the pavement. Its been about a month since I've scrubbed the tires.

Anyway, I have been using this product for about 5 years now,it used to be sold in an orange see through bottle, now grey. Its Eagle 1 All Wheel and Tire cleaner. Lifts the dirt right off the tire. I for one, do not use it on my wheels because I like the traditional soapy/car wash rag. This product has never harmed any wheels its come in contact with. I know there is another product out there called Wesleys white wall or something but I dont have experience with them. I use this product everytime I wash the cars. I do the tires first, then rinse, and then wash the car, that way I dont develop waterspots on the car while I'm trying to do the tires.

Start with a tire. Doesnt look too bad...

Spray the product on-immediately start to see the brown-thats the dirt lifting.

You dont have to, but I like to scrub the tire with a brush.

Rinsing, notice all the black and brown crud on the pavement

Same with the front tire:

You can see the tire starting to dry, nice and black. Almost ready for any tire shine product you want to spray on it (I dont use them)

Wesley's Bleche-White has a permanent home in my garage. It's great for blackwalls and a must for RWL's.

I've always used a separate brush and cleaner to do my tires as well.

I use the purple power engine degreaser to clean my tires. I do it the same way as you with a brush and I see all the brown crud come off. Only thing, its caustic so if you get it on your skin, rinse it off quickly or it will burn you or at the very least make you itch real bad. I learned that from using my hands and some fine steel wool to clean my wheels with it. I now use a brush. I've never had any problems with it discoloring my wheels. I have used it on chrome wheels, steel wheels with plastic hubcaps, and the stock alloys on my burban.

I use that stuff in a large container for the Initial cleanup of engine parts when I take a motor apart. It never really affected my hands, although I could tell it was bad stuff. I've used it several times.

My 15 year old brother had his hands in it helping out and they actually bled, it was like the skin was eaten away. No lie.

That's what I meant by it will burn you. It will eat your skin. If its only on your hands for a minute or two then you wash them, you will be fine. But having it on your hands for 30 minutes while you are scrubbing 4 wheels and tires completely down, that's when it will burn you. It affect some people way worse, like your brother.
