Well, I finally had a chance to test my new Putco LED 3rd brake light (and also my new LED tails).

Here's the scenario:
I had both LED tails plugged in. I removed the factory 3rd brake light and plugged in the new LED one. When I plugged it in, the brake lights (on the 3rd only) came on. I pushed the pedal and the tails came on and the 3rd went off. I release the brake, but the tails and 3rd stayed on. To turn on the cargo light, you are supposed to have the interior lights on. I turned on the cargo light without having the interior lights on and the cargo light turned on. So I unplugged the LED 3rd and plugged the original one back in. Everything worked fine.

The only thing I could figure out is that there is not as much resistance with the new light VS the old one.

I have no problem with the cargo light being able to come on (I actually always wanted it that way anyways).

Can I put a resistor in on the brake light line going to the LED 3rd to make it think that 2 standard bulbs are actually there? (unfortunately I was stupid and left the light in the bed of the truck so I can't tell you what the colors of the wires even are right now )

Any input would be helpful! (this isn't a rush thing; just so I have it done by March :D)

It sounds to me like the new third brake light is wired incorrectly.

But why would they sell hundreds of them wired wrong? Or could this just be defective? I thought they were all soldiered by a robot/computer. :dunno:

So, your 3rd brake light is lit like a tail light normally? Brake and the 3rd brake light goes out? That sounds like a wiring issue to me.:dunno:

I could fix it if it was here in my driveway.:tmc:

Switch the wires around. Something is backwards.
What wires though? I remember there were 4, but not the colors. Wouldn't it just be 2 wires for brake lights (power/ground) and 2 for cargo?

The thing about it working just fine with the interior lights on (which I think are on the same circuit as the cargo light) really makes me wonder WTF?...just seems weird.
