Any evidence would burn off of the plugs in just a few miles. I thought we were talking about an engine that had not been started. Apparently my coffee hasn't kicked in.

If this engine has run a 100 miles and more, you don't need to add anything in the cylinders. Anything that is going to be removed by the rings is gone now. Some people like to run seafoam through the carb (a little at a time) and claim it helps remove deposits inside the engine. I think I'd just keep the oil changed a little more often than normal and drive it.

Those old cast iron blocks are TOUGH!

I know a lot of small block distributors swap, but I think the big block uses a longer shaft... but let me go look.

I think they are the same two? you wouldnt think so-but the 454 dist was in that 75 3/4 ton and the 350 engine is 80-86. I messed up dist taking it apart trying to get the rectifier or what ever that thing is called(didnt know it had a clip) so 350 dist is toast and have the 454 dist laying around thought id put the new accel coil from the 350 in it...and try it in the 350-u think it work?

If the shaft is the same and it has the same drive gear, compare the base where it sits in the block. If they look the same I'd give it a try.
