The backup camera is still a neat tool if you use it. I just don't think we need one mandated on every vehicle.

Well I heard that DOT was making major changes come the first of this year. Whats next? All carbed vehicles banned from being driven on the road and only fuel injected one only?

Agreed.. I would "like" to have one that has a screen built-in to my rearview mirror (an option on the 2011 Outbacks).. But, "mandating" it just seems pointless.
If they're going to "mandate" something, how about some sort of sensor in the seat of the car that can tell a cellphone "Hey, this guy's driving! Don't let him use you!" Or get rid of "infotainment systems" by GM, Ford, et al.. Let the driver focus on DRIVING and not "hrmmm... Which one of these thousand entries is the album I wanted to listen to.. scroll.. scroll.. scroll.... CRASH!!"

That's total crap! The GOV shouldn't be able to force us to have certain accessories on our vehicles. If they start mandating stuff, I'll never buy a new vehicle.
I think that states requiring inspections is total B.S. too. Its just something to get you into the shop and get the mechanics to make easy (and more) money. On that same side note, do states that have inspections have lower crash rates or anything than states that don't inspect?

If they START mandating stuff? Seatbelts, headlights, antilock breaks, traction control, pollution control components, "softer impact dashes to reduce injuries in crashes,"... the list goes on and on..

I believe the state inspection process here in Texas is just designed to make the stat money.

Please dont there on state inspections. I live in VA and we have them and they suck. But do know a place that only checks brakes, suspension, and lights. Failing inspection for truck being lifted too high or lowered too low is complete BS. I'd rather pay higher insurance if its that much of safety hazzard then get rejected for a safety inspection for that.
