You can get a kit like this...

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BMM-20297/

or you can find a factory switch out of the salvage yard or from a parts house and adapt it to your gas peddle
it's either 650.00 for a rebuilt 350 tranny with a shift kit and a stall conv. Or a 400 for 500.00 with a stock stall conv. pluss having to do the drive shaft and put in the electric kickdown. Iv heard yo have to replace the flex plate mouting a 350 to a 454-So either way i go there about the same cost. I know the 400 is more durable but iv been told the 350 will handle the 454 with no problem. If i go with the 350 i'll have a better gear set up and tad more hp. Just being indesive.:dunno:

For me it sounds like the 350 is the better deal, but...

What are you going to do with the truck? Hot rod, tow, daily driver that occasionally gets hammered, ect.

The 350 is a good tranny and can hold up to some power but remember weight is a factor in trans life too. The 350 I have in my Nova was built to hold up to 1000hp but it also in a 3300lb car. So it depends on what you are going to do with it and how much you trust your trans builder.

The 70 c10 weighs 3760 and was going with 454 bored 30 over 9.3 to 1 compression 20thousanths shaved on the heads thinner head gasket-9.7 to 1 or so-rv cam intake to match headers electric fuel pump double roll chain...Just a stout 454 but wont turn more than 6,000rpm-daily driver i want to be able to depend on it whether towing racing or cruising-im not always runing WOT but if i have to its there u know-i trust the guy to do it right-he says he have to put new steel but not the stronger kind and use same splins and the normal rebuild stuff-claims he buids that extact tranny for racers who are coming off the ground at take off. And says it handle a mild 454-but a mild 454 can easily have 500lbs of trque. And HOLY CRAP on the nova-i thought my monza was fast:cheers:

Well I say if you trust your tranny guy then go with the th350. Most of the guys I race with are running th350. It's lighter, lower first gear ratio, takes less hp to turn it, you won't have to move your cross member or change your drive shaft.

Also, thanks man. I have a blast with my Nova. I hammer the crap out of it. It's a lot of fun driving a high 9 second car around on the street:ohnoes:

I am actually in the planning/gathering parts phase of building a new motor for it. I have a bowtie block that will likely become a 436 small block. I'm planning on the new motor taking me to low 9s. I would love to go faster than that but once you get close to 150mph the rules get really strict and I don't want to turn my street car into a race car.

I'll agree with all that on the T350, but if you can get that 68 Vette T400 for $100, I'd run with that. That 68 year model will have the good sprag drum in it too. That will stand up to anything you'll be putting in that truck and then some.
