Quick Q:
Can I remove, clean, and re-install my EGR?

Yes...but DO NOT put the whole thing in solvent...
That can ruin the electrical part of it...
I wasn't going to dunk it anyways. I don't think I'm that dumb ; I guess we'd see! :D

I have no idea what it looks like, so I'm in the dark until I remove it. What can I use to clean the "tip" of it? Carb Cleaner? Is it anything like the IAC?

The piece inside of it that moves is called the PINTLE...
They get gunked up over time and start sticking and then react slow when throttle position is changed.

I would get a new gasket...pull it and clean it real good.
Use either carb cleaner or brake cleaner.

Make sure the PINTLE moves freely when you are done.

Oh...did I mention...get a new gasket??

Nemisys is great little unit. Very cool!
I'm not sure if it is THIS ONE or not (looks similar), but it is a very nice unit. I'd need the manual just to figure out what everything it is telling me means. From what I can remember, the large screen is really nice and easy to read. Everything is pretty self-explanatory while navigating through the menus.

I'd love to have one like it, but before I spend $500 on a hand-held, I'd rather spend $800 and get EFI Live.

For significantly less I can hook you up with a great guy in GB that sells the aeroforce interceptor gauges.

That scan tool is nice but it has too many buttons for me to be trusted with it.
Looks like a really nice gauge (if this is it)! What else would I need for it? It says it uses the OBDII port (which is perfect), but are there any sensors that I need to buy with it? Or can it just display all the info the ECM itself has? I'm guessing that the extra sensors are if you want it to calculate it seperate from the ECM?

Definitely a very nice gauge, but I just need to know more about it. :tmc:

Well, like anything else with a gasket, its mandatory to replace it when you remove something that presses against it.
Thanks for the advice Jim!

I do have one other symptom to add:
If I push the clutch in and it remains at a high idle, then rev the engine up (not sure how high I have to go yet), it idles down right away. I usually just jam the pedal to the floor quick and let up quick...how high it goes varries.

That sounds like an old carb with a worn out manifold choke.

You would be surprised at the people that try to reuse a gasket that is obviously no good...

I don't know your level of ability.so I was kinda making a joke about the gasket, while at the same time...making sure you KNEW to get a new one...

Look around your throttle body and find the accelerator cable.
Unhook it from the throttle body and gently push it in and out...it will move the accelorator on the inside of the truck.
FEEL it to see if there is any binding or roughness "AT ALL" in the cable.
It may be a STRANDED cable and one of the wire strands may have broken and is catching on the "INSIDE" of the cable...thus not letting it idle back down like it is supposed to.

It is possible that when you stomp the gas and let it POP back up...it don't bind.. :dunno:

Also work the throttle body when the cable is off...
"FEEL" for any rough spots when you move the butterfly.
It cold also be binding a little...
Just another thought on something else to check..

That is a very interesting and good idea. I would've never thought of it. I'll see if I can do it tomorrow (I gotta do a little thing called "work" tonight :D)
