Ever heard of putting an Oldsmobile engine into a Chevy truck?

I have a buddy down in New Orleans who has a 1985 Chevy C10 shortbed. He blew the engine in it, so he decided he wants to put in the 72 Oldsmobile 350 rocket engine he had built for another project. I saw some of his progress when I was down in New Orleans this weekend. He had to get a buddy to custom weld some engine mounts. You can find all kinds of companies that sell kits to put chevy engines into an Oldmobile, but not the other way around.

I'm trying to get him to join the site and post pics of the progress of the truck.

The olds were freaks prior to '79 and wouldn't fit anything chevy. The main reason why olds swaps were rare was because the chevy had a shorter stroke and usually made better HP for racing. Olds engines honestly were kind of grandma cruisers stock...

Well I know this particular Olds engine is no slouch. It was built from the ground up with all high performance parts. It was originally gonna go into a 70 cutlass.

Built Olds engines were torque monsters (much like built pontiac engines). The 403 was used in Buicks, Pontiacs, and Oldsmobiles. I had a 79 TransAm with the 403 in it. The Olds 350 from the early 70s was sort of a big block engine...

This friend of yours isn't an old member of L13 is he? There was a guy on there with the same truck that swapped a 5.3 in.

He's going to need a B-O-P transmission too since the Chevy uses a different bellhousing bolt pattern than the Olds motor.

Years ago I put a 455 Olds rocket in a early 80's Chevy truck. Easiest swap I have ever done. Olds motor mounts bolted right up to existing holes. Had to drill holes in frame for transmission cross member. Used 2 piece 3 speed drive shaft from donor truck right length and all. Had headers so exhaust was easy. Wiring is the same no problem there. When that motor went south I replaced it with a Pontiac built 455.


Chevy is great for making horsepower thru rpm Buick ,Olds and Pontiac were just plain torque monsters !

He already has a fresh rebuilt turbo 350 bolted up to it.

I had a olds 350 in a 64 Chevy c 10. I didnt do the swap though and the truck was in a half way rebuilt state.
