Since we're on "helper" devices, how long do airbags last?

I'm debating whether to go 3/4 or 1 ton springs VS 1/2 ton w/bags.

Forever, unless punctured by some thing big and heavy.

I have one truck with 260K on them.
Wow! I guess for the extra money, I might as well keep my ride quality. (like $400 for 1ton leafs VS $600 for bags & compressor + $270 for 1/2 ton leafs)

I have yet to do a compressor. I have done dual lines to every truck, and just adjusted as needed. Really isnt that much of a hassle, and a big savings.

so you just fill the bags before you use them but cant adjust on the fly since you dont have a compressor and a tank?

Correct. The schraeders are in the bumper, and if I am going to put a load on or pull a heavy trailer, I put in just enough to level it. Not always hauling, so it works fine. I have hauled a wide variety of things, and have never had the need to adjust. i do however carry a small bicycle pump under the back seat, just in case. They can be filled in seconds.

There is no need for a reservoir, the bags are the reservoir.

Not hacking on anybody for the compressor set-up, i have just never needed it.

i see that would make them a whole lot cheaper to run. but the advantages of onboard air are enough to make me want to do both at the same time if i did

I see the advantage of having an on-board air supply and also the savings of not having one.

If one were to put in a compressor system, could it be used for anything other than the bags, like tires for instance?

you can have an air line that comes off the compressor and use it for filling the tires and what not. My gf has one factory in her saab. It's for the auto leveling shocks.

I've heard of them for the shocks. My friends '95 Caprice wagon has one.

Can the pumps put out enough volume and pressure to fill a tire though? For instance, you can buy one of those cigarette lighter pumps. They put out the PSI, but hardly any volume.

if i installed on board air it would have a quick connect for tires and other stuff like rafts at the lake etc and then it would also run a set of nathans

An onboard air compressor can easily fill a tire. What do you think the air line is for? Guys that offroad a lot throw on tanks and compressors and use them a lot while out off-roading.

Onboard air is perfect for offroading. That way you can air down when you hit the rocks or sand, then air back up when you get back to hard surface roads. My cousin and I built a bumper that served as an "air tank" when I was in high school for this very reason.

I just wasn't sure if the small compressors could do it.
Thanks Carl.
