Hub Bearings, calipers and rotors

This is what the dealership is saying i need to get done. some really bad noises that started up last month have apparently jacked up some hardware. any who, they price quoted me 535 EA for the hubs, labor included. and didn't have the write up yet for the supposedly needed to be replaced calipers and rotors. smells like BS to me. i'm thinking, have them do some other work....service airbag alert flashed a couple of times, they are sayin that will be 225. have them take care of that. something else wrong w/my steering....have them do that as well for 250. then i'm thinking buy new better performance rotors, clean up the calipers myself and call the brakes done and fixed. thats looking to be about 225 for the rotors. the hubs i found online for 85 abs cable included. .....how hard is it to change those out? any who, yea...a lot of mixed up words here.....give me some feed back. save the money right, do it myself. of course. any tips and pointers for where to go for some of this. i do have access to a lift and some air tools at the base hobby shop. that will help the process tremendously i'm sure. let me know what you guys think.

Smells like a tech trying to make big money to me. You can buy the hubs MUCH MUCH cheaper than that and have an independent shop look at it. I'd bet you save over half.

i'm with bossman here....i have changed my own hub bearings and mine are only like $12 a side man.... calipers and rotors and stuff...naww...you can change those.....it easy!

I wouldnt take it to a stealership unless i absolutely had to, i work at a parts store and we can get everything you mentioned for less than the dealership price,

Find your local good ole boy mechanic and have it done without the headache of the stupid dealership. Everyone knows they are going to take a few arms and legs for what you can have done by someone honest.

so they called back with full prices for everything. are you sitting down.....god i hope so.

for the 4 brand new brake rotors, pads and calipers....plus the new hub bearings....they wanted $4k. umm, yea.....i'm not going to say anything else about that.

the steering problem, they are replacing a shaft....$250 parts and labor.

airbag seat position sensor.....$225

i only opted for the steering shaft bologna. not comfortable attempting that.

as i mentioned, found hubs for $85 each. is this a good price? found them on hubandbearingwarehouse.com comes w/ABS cable. thats all i need right?

a shop i took it to before the dealership said my rotors are plenty good. t he dealership says (and its true cause i can see it myself) that theres lots of rust on the rotor. if i have the rotor resurfaced (turned?) whatever they call it, will this solve the rust problem? or i'm going to just go with....

autotruck toys has some slotted rotors for $225. only the fronts, i never asked them to look at the rears. typical dealership, lets tell him he needs to change everything BS.

calipers......these they say are rusted up as well. what can i do to fix this problem? go aftermarket better performing? need more help with this then anything really.

you can turn the rotors and get your own pads and calipers and put them on...omg....they must think your an idiot!! dont take that shit!!!

Do you have access to the auto shop on base? If so, take the rotors off and sand or bead blast them at the base shop. Then have them turned down, or find out if one of the machinist mates would turn them on a lathe in the machine shop. All you need is to true them up and get a flat surface, there is a measurement stamped on the rotors that states minimum thickness. As long as you are thicker than this measurement and still trued up, you are good to go. I know Hawaii is hard on rotors due to the salt air, it's just a few suggestions.

In my hub thread you will see all that you need to see about pulling the rotors. There are a couple of threads about doing brakes on our trucks here too. I'll go find some links for you.

The price you listed for hubs sounds good, they were 130 each for me stateside.
