GM sorta whored out the SS moniker over the last few years. Granted the truck and the trailblazer where nice vehicles they were never worthy in my opinion of the classic SS badge. It should have been reserved for a truly capable car based platform.
I am talking about the Monte Carlo SS, it was not a performer but it did look good and it defined the vehicle as a Super Sport with other package add ons like the body. The 90's Impala SS is great example of what was done right with the SS badge. You got what the SS brought in the 60's and early 70's (72 it stopped 73 for Camaros) was performance, body styling add ons.
GM's first whoring out of the SS started on the SS454 pick up. Some things should just be left alone. SS for Cars, Z/28 for Camaro, Z71 for trucks, Z06 for a Vett.
GM seems to think they can put an SS badge on something and it transforms a Cobalt into a street machine. The malibu in my opinion from a purist stand point should be the vehicle to transform into the Chevelle because that is where the Chevelle came from in the begining. Problem is the malibu has made name for it's self (finaly) after some failed attempts this generation of Malibu is great car for what is intended for......family and daily transportation.
We were spoiled by the ability of GM, Ford and Dodge to transform our family cars into Muscle cars. Some of them still have that basic formula but todays demands for the base vehicle to be a family car, good on gas, safe and somewhat sporty it's hard to do and please everyone.
I think the new term for GM for the upscale car you can get is LTZ....This works as you can load up with options. caddy has done it right with calling the CTS a CTS/V when you get the V-8. I have feeling that if we see a Chevelle it's it's going to be somehting CTS based or G8 based, since both can transform from V-6 to V-8, it makes more sence to rebody a CTS into Chevelle that to bring in the G8 platform to me. The CTS is proven the CTS/V is a proven performer. The gripes anyone might have for it not being refined etc would be over looked if it were bodied as a Chevelle and carried SS badges. It expected to be rough a little clunky and not total performance car or a total luxary car. I think it could work if GM did it this way but that is only my opinion and it's something that would be worthy of an SS badge.......finally!!
Let's NOT build anything off the Malibu's platform, please.

We don't need an FWD Chevelle
